Adobe Photoshop CS5 – Content aware filling

I’ve been having a play around with the new Adobe CS5 suite of programs today. I’ve only dipped my big toe in the water of Photoshop CS5 so far, but I’m completely blown away by the new “Content Aware” filling feature. This to me is the one greatest feature so far.

Here’s a quick video on the feature

I’m sure you will agree with me that it’s pretty special.

There are some other new cool features like Puppet Warp, which enables you to warp certain parts of an image which I’ll go into when I’ve checked them out fully.

British Airways Strike to go ahead

So the union Unite has said it’s British Airways members are to to on strike again starting tomorrow (Monday).

This announcement comes after Unite won an appeal against the banning of the strike earlier last week.

But it also comes just days after BA announced record losses of £531m. This is no trivial amount – BA are in dire straits if they are making that size of loss (the largest since they were privatised). This figure also does not include the grounding of flights in April and May due to the ash cloud.

Unison have however today announced that if British Airways is to restore the travel perks of staff who lost them in the last strikes, they would call off the strikes tomorrow.

Staff lost BA travel perks in the last strikes after BA pre-warned staff they would lose them if they went of strike.

What are “Travel Perks”?

All staff receive 90% discounts on any air fare for themselves and their nominated family or friends as long as seats are available. Then, after five years service, a crew member is also be eligible for one set of free tickets to anywhere BA fly to. It’s an exceptional deal and can save employees thousands of pounds each year.

Now remember, this is a “perk” – a treat for BA employees. A treat for employee loyalty.

Iin my eyes, a mass walkout when a company is already making huge losses – then asking the same company for a treat? You have to admire the cheek.

So, if BA employees wish to strike, then that’s their prerogative – but don’t start striking because you lost your loyalty rewards for not being loyal to your employer. BA have also (rightly so in my opinion) said that once again, any member of staff who strikes this time round will lose their travel perks too.

In this financial climate, BA staff (some of the best paid in the industry) ought to be glad they have employment. I’m sure there are many people more than willing to take their places.

So my message to any BA staff thinking of striking is – Don’t kick your employer when they are down, then ask for a favour.

Do you agree with me? Or are you a striking BA employee? Leave comments below.
