Abbey Road in London is the site where the world famous photograph of the Beatles was taken in 1969.
Ever since, the location has been a shrine to visitors from all over the world wanting to have their photograph taken crossing the famous zebra crossing.
The Abbey Road studios have installed a web cam overlooking the zebra crossing and I’ve just spent the last 30 minutes completely engrossed by it!
With tourists & pedestrians ignoring the traffic – trying to reproduce the famous album cover and traffic ignoring the pedestrians and the laws on zebra crossings! It’s compulsive viewing – I wonder how many accidents there must be per day!
Here’s a quick snapshot I took a little while ago:
The four people on the crossing in this photo were nearly ran down seconds before this was taken by the silver car heading away from the camera. Luckily he did an emergency stop just in time.
The highway code states:
look out for pedestrians waiting to cross and be ready to slow down or stop to let them cross you MUST give way when a pedestrian has moved onto a crossing
This really does not seem to go on here with vehicles and pedestrians constantly in a state of confusion.
Take a look for yourselves at the live camera here.
