So it’s just a week after the 10 Greater Manchester authorities got the support of the Government to inflict residents with a minimum tax charge for alcohol when the Centre for Public Health publishes a list of the top ten areas  for alcohol related illness.

The list , compiled with information supplied by government quango North West Public Heath Authority, shows 8 of the top 10 wort offenders in the North West.

Here is the full list:

  • Manchester
  • Salford
  • Liverpool
  • Rochdale
  • Tameside
  • Islington
  • Middlesbrough
  • Halton
  • Oldham
  • Blackpool

The more suspicious amongst us might suggest this was merely propaganda to enforce the need for minimum prices for alcohol within Greater Manchester. They also seem to brush under the carpet the fact that London came out the worst in the UK for alcohol related crime.

The Government surely wouldn’t do that, would they ;)
