Most people are aware of PDF style documents, but what are they? A PDF (Portable Document Format) is a document type created by Adobe in 1993.
The humble PDF has many uses, the most important is that it is a cross platform document. It meats it should look the same on in Windows, Linux, OSX etc. It also means the document should look as you intended it because they are not readily editable.
The newer versions of Microsoft Word allows you to save files in PDF format, but to do more such as alter them or split them, you need more.
The “daddy” of them all is Adobe Acrobat 9. Adobe wrote the PDF format and until fairly recently, this was pretty much your only option.
The problem? Acrobat is not too cheap. The standard version costs around £326 and the pro version will set you back about £521. It’s a great product but it’s cost can also be prohibitive to many businesses who need to buy a licence per PC.
